Meeting Minutes

February 21, 2016


The Ashland Youth Ball Association Board of Directors Meeting for February 2016 was called to order by President John Keith in the ACRC Conference Room.  All votes during meeting are noted in these minutes in italics.

Present:  John Keith (President), Dave Nygren (treasurer), Mark Adel (co-vp/baseball/Legion), Nate Tonjes (vp/softball), Russ Westerhold, Brian Miller (co-vp/baseball/Legion), Brian Miller.  Absent:  Bob Crisler (secretary).

Community members:  Doug Whitehead

Approval of Documents

John presented January 2016 Meeting Minutes.  (Dave 1st, Nate 2nd, approved).

Dave Nygren presented the Treasurers Report.  $5,030 registrations so far.  (Russ 1st, Brian 2nd, approved)

Old Business

CONCESSION STAND - John indicated that construction complete with warranty items remaining.

Bylaws / Non-profit Status – Russ reported that he has been working on bylaws and the 501(c)(3) non profit status.  Russ handed out some documentation for review.  Discussion held on application for 501(c)(3).  Board voted on and passed Resolution for authorization to proceed and John/Russ designated approved to sign paperwork. (Dave 1st, Brian 2nd, approved).

REGISTRATIONS – Registrations from website indicate 232 players so far.  Currently in the late registration period to include $30 late fee.  Registrations end March 1st for baseball and softball.  Legion ball registrations does not have end date at this time.

 

 

New Business

Baseball –

Ashland Baseball Tournament – Mark discussed options for the annual youth invitational tournament.  Field availability discussed and fields not available during daytime of SlumpBuster tournament (June 15-30).  June 3rd-5th will be 9-12 year olds.  June 10-12 on Field B will be 13-14 year olds.

Cass County -80 players registered.  Should include 4 squirts, 2 wee-wee, 1 bronco and one pony team.  League meeting on March 13th to be attended by Mark and Brian.  Brian asked about uniforms and it was indicated new uniforms should be purchased as needed.

Legion subcommittee met to discuss many items, still waiting on Yutan Legion to determine if new uniforms must be purchased or not.  Coach Emanuel does have games scheduled for both Jr and Sr legion teams.  Ashland will be host of Junior legion Area 2 (districts) tournament July 8-12, 2016.

Softball – Registrations lower but at 78 players so far.  Nate is still determining coaches for upcoming season.  Number of teams must be to Todd Valley league by March 7th.  Scheduling meetings March 16-17.  Tentative teams; 8U-three, 10U – 1 comp and 1 rec, 12U-2 teams?, 14U-1 team.  No 16U or 18U team in 2016.  Nate also discussed idea that due to # of players at 12U, he spoke with Todd Valley Leagues reps and they were open to different options.  Open gym currently for softball girls of all ages at AGHS MPR, averaging 17-20 in attendance.  Pitcher and Catcher Clinic to be held by AGHS coach and players on Sunday evening in April and 1st week of May.

T-ball – Discussed that there were a few parents who upset about January 1 deadline.

FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT – John attended a meeting that the City and JEO held to start up the Master Planning for the remainder of Jack Anderson Ball Park.

style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%'> After much discussion about moving players up in age groups to more competitive levels, motion to adopt Jan. 1 as registration date of record and standardized language to indicate players available to move up. (Bob 1st, Dave 2nd, approved.)

 

Discussed weekend player clinics for softball players in MPR.

 

FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT – Further discussions need to be held on future of Jack Anderson Ball Park.
