Information for 10U and 12U Softball

10U and 12U Softball Considerations

Parents

Registrations will be open for summer softball starting Jan. 1 2020.  With that coming up, I wanted to share some information with you regarding our processes for the future.  Please read through so you are aware of things to pay attention to when registering for the summer of 2020 softball season.

Based on things we have done in the past and feedback from multiple parties, we are always looking into different options for our youth softball teams.  Overall, many of the local leagues we have played in the past no longer exists and there really are not many other leagues at this point around our area.  We found a league last year with great stability. When we joined the Southeast League, we placed all three of our 10U teams in the same competitive division, but found maybe some would like a different option.  The Southeast league does provide a Recreational level as well, however, as some found out, travel can be a little farther for that league although they play doubleheaders once a week which does help.

In order to help with this situation, we will be asking for a league/level preference during registration mainly for our 10U level, but possibly 12U as well depending on number of girls. If your daughter will be a 10U play this coming summer, please read the details of possibilities below for Competitive vs Recreational levels to see what best fits your daughter.  “Competitive”, by no means, is like some that travel all over the place and place in big tourneys and such, but it is just a higher level within this league and those teams may play in Districts and State competitions if they qualify.

Recreational in Gretna - They would play in a similar setup to our 8U league that played locally, in Gretna and sometimes Springfield.  Will have a league tournament and be done sometime around the end of June with starting point around last week in April/1st week in May. Rules are mostly the same except for 10 players can play and there is a combination of Player and Coach pitch in these games with no walks.

Competitive in Southeast League - Starts beginning of May and goes until the middle of June with a tournament after that.  All games are doubleheaders on Friday evenings. Players pitch all the time with walks and steals and all that. Game locations will vary as they try not to make the North teams go to the far South teams but meet in the middle.

If you have any other comments or questions, feel free to let us know. You can reply to this email or place information in the comments when registering.
